I was signing up to bring food and supplies to my son's next lacrosse tournament when I thought, "Wow, this would be an awesome tool for cooperative learning!" Just think, if you were working on a larger project, one where students had to, "Work with peers to set rules for collegial discussions and decision-making (e.g., informal consensus, taking votes on key issues, presentation of alternate views), clear goals and deadlines, and individual roles as needed." (See CCSS ELA SL.9-10.1) How great would this tool be?
Students could identify the individual components of a project, in essence prompting them to really break the task down into smaller objectives. Each student would have some autonomy over their tasks. It would clearly delineate who was responsible for which steps. If needed, for the first project, the teacher could role model how to list the steps and allow the groups to choose roles, and thereafter, the groups could break it down themselves.
I think this would be a valuable tool to promote discussions and cooperation within a group. Check it out and let me know what you think!
